"We had a great time on this hike with John, our guide. He was very knowledgeable about the area, and answered all of our questions. I would highly recommend this hike, and would rate it an easy hike but definitely wear hiking boots as some of the trails are rocky."

"My daughter and I booked this hike as the highlight of our trip to Lucerne. The hike was amazing. It was actually more than a hike, as we made stops along the way for coffee, cheese with a tour of the cheese making process and lunch. Our guide John knew so much about the area and shared a great deal of interesting information along the way. He was also super nice, accommodating and helpful, going above and beyond. The scenery was stunning, there were many photo opportunities along the way. The hike ended with an incline ride down the mountain and a ferry back to Lucerne. We’re very happy we booked this hike!"

"This is a great hike! We had a spectacular day and our guide, Peter, was wonderful. We traveled by train, bus, and cable car to the top of the mountain. After some refreshments, we began the hike. We walked down the mountain to where the bus dropped us off. It took us all day, but we were a little slow! There were four in our group and most of us used walking sticks. I would strongly recommend you take walking sticks and use them! It is downhill and sometimes a little steep. You need good hiking shoes or boots for this trip too. We stopped for lunch at a farmer's restaurant. The food was authentic Swiss and fabulous! The mountain views are the reason to do this trip. There are waterfalls and cows grazing in the fields. It is exactly what you would expect to experience on an alpine walk in Switzerland. I highly recommend this hike!"

"This is a great hike for all fitness levels. The personal attention and service was terrific. The guides met us at the train station in Lucerne. The entire day from train stations to the mountain went smoothly. A coffee and croissant at the top of the mountain before the hike began was even included. Peter and Dave were very knowledgeable about the area and Switzerland. We had a group of 7 with age range from 54 - 20. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone."

"The day after a small snow storm Rene guided us on an adventurous hike in the Alps a short train ride from Lucerne. There was about 6" of fresh snow on the ground so the views were absolutely spectacular! It was great to have a local guide us who knew the trail very well and was able speak the language. With his knowledge and hiking skills he helped to truly make it a "once in a lifetime" experience!"

"We did the heart of the alps day tour and loved every minute.We were fortunate to have good weather which started a bit cold but our awesome guide had gloves and hats for these unprepared Aussie travellers. The day started at the train station where we were met and escorted by train ,bus and cable car to the start of the walk . It was such a pleasure being looked after as we had been travelling on our own for quite a few weeks. We were the only two people on the tour and there were very few others on the mountain...how delightful is was walking through mountains with gushing waterfalls,rolling green meadows,wild flowers ,birds ,goats and cowbells . Before starting the walk we had coffee and pastries at a small family run restaurant at the top of the cable car. The highlight was lunch two hours later in a valley with a view of four waterfalls where we had a traditional swiss Rosti . We walked at our own pace stopping for frequent photos . Rene was helpful and informative ,advising us regarding the rest of our stay. I can highly recommend this tour for young and old."

"Myself and my husband went on this day trip from Lucerne with our guide Pete. It was a well organised tour and Pete was very informative of the area and answered our questions fully. Pete was a friendly guy and we felt comfortable in his company. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience from the gondola ride up the mountain to the hike back down. The views were spectacular. "Rene led my friend and I on a beautiful hike through the Alps this past August. We took a train, then a bus, followed by a ride in a "gondola" to the top of the Alps where we witnessed the beauty and the majesty of the Alps. From the top you could see waterfalls and valleys, the towns below, and glaciers above, all the while taking in the clear mountain air and listening to the chimes of the Swiss cowbells. It was one of the most amazing experiences I have had in all my travels. The hike was of perfect pace and exercise level--not too fast, nor too slow, and not rigorous, but a good walk with slight up-hills and down-hills. Absolutely beautiful! Rene was well-informed and very agreeable to hike with. I would absolutely, definitely recommend this hike, as well as probably any of his hikes."

"Led by an English-speaking guide with rich Swiss family heritage we were treated to the true Swiss experience...the journey began in the quaint, magnificent town of Engelberg where we took a local bus to the base of Furenalp mountain. After riding a cable car up the side of the mountain we took in some local eats...the most delicious, body-warming bowl of vegetable soup and an artfully prepared meat and cheese platter. After filling our bellies we headed out into the Alps. Descending through the valley we witnessed magnificent snow-caps, waterfalls, autumn leaves, rivers, wildflowers, and all the best this region has to offer. Along the way we ran into a pack of bell-ringing goats, stopped into cottages nestled in the hillside that offered locally-made cheeses and Schnapps. This tour was a beautiful mix of culture and nature. Our tour guide, Rene, even took several photos of us to capture our trip...thanks, Rene, for the true "Swiss experience"!"

What a wonderful experience ! I joined Rene on the Furenalp hike and it was magical. The weather was perfect and the scenery was breathtaking ! This excursion is not far outside of Luzern and while it involves a train, bus and cable car it was surprising how quickly we were surrounded by beautiful glacial Alps. Rene is an excellent guide. He set the framework for the trip but carefully adjusted the hike according to our skill level and allowed us the freedom to choose activities along the way. Rene's in-depth knowledge of Swiss history was intriguing and his enthusiasm infections. I would highly recommend the Furenalp program or other programs through ECHO Trials."
