This Post-Tour 3 Day Train Tour Lucerne has been designed to complement your private rail tour through the Swiss Alps. Extend your stay to experience the scenic city of Lucerne and explore it’s two famous mountains, Rigi and Pilatus.
In the morning you’ll depart from Zermatt on the legendary Glacier Express bound for Andermatt. Enjoy the unparalleled beauty of the Zermatt and Goms Valleys, surrounded by sky-high peaks.
After changing train in Andermatt, you will arrive in Fluelen, where you’ll board the 100-old steamer bound for Lucerne. Find comfortable seating in the first class and prepare for the leisurely, 3-hour-long cruise on Lake Lucerne featuring stunning views of Mt. Pilatus and Mt. Rigi.
Lunch will be available on either the Glacier Express or during lake cruise.
In the late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Lucerne. Your guide will take you directly to the hotel so you can check in.
The guide will be happy to give you suggestions for the best places to eat and drink.
You can enjoy an evening on your own.

Meet your ECHO Rails & Trails guide at your hotel at 7 am for a guided tour up to Lucerne’s home mountain: Rigi.
Hop on a journey combining a train, gondola, cogwheel train and lake cruise for a truly adventurous day. Ascend Rigi with the oldest cogwheel train in Europe, and enjoy a fantastic view of the Lake Lucerne. Upon your wish, ideas for flexible gentle walks will be provided. From the top of Rigi, you will descend to Rigi Kaltbad where you will take a gondola to Weggis. Here you will board a ship direction Lucerne.
From there you will catch another boat to Alpnachstad, where you will board the steepest cogwheel train in the world. Enjoy your ride to the top of Pilatus.
The summit of Pilatus offers countless activities: from a quick hike to the summit of Esel, and a round walk through the rocky tunnels surrounding the top, to observing Alphorn players and paragliders. You are welcome to have a drink and a snack at the bar, or even watch a short movie about the legends associated with Pilatus.
To go back you will take a Dragon Ride gondola and a regular cable car down to Kriens. From here, it’s only a short walk and a bus ride to the city center.
After the trip your guide will escort you to the hotel or point other places of interest. The guide will also be happy to suggest the best places for food and drink in Lucerne.

Moderate Fitness Required
This trip is based on public transport and you require moderate physical fitness to be able to change the platforms, stops and trains in time.
Visit on Rigi and Pilatus can involve walking on unpaved paths. The length and difficulty of the walk depends on the client’s preferences.
Stairs, ramps, and other obstacles should be expected. You should be able to walk about 5000 to 7000 steps a day.
